چکیده

The in vivo and in vitro experiments were performed on forty dogs to assess the accuracy and to compare three methods estimating gallbladder (GB) volume. During in vivo experiments, fasting GB volumes in normal dogs were compared with dogs exhibiting GB wall thickness. Another group of dogs with the GB shapes resembling the ellipsoid was studied in vivo and in vitro. First, the ellipsoid method was used to estimate the fasting GB volume. Then, the dogs were sacrificed, GBs ligated and the GB volumes were estimated anew. There were no marked differences between these measurements. The bile was removed from the GBs and its volume was compared with the results of previous in vivo estimation. Furthermore, the increasing portions of bile were introduced into these GBs and the estimations of GB volume were performed. The same method was validated with the use of artificial GB models. Finally, the ellipsoid method was compared with random point and sum-of-cylinder methods in healthy dogs with different GB shapes. The accuracy was: sum of cylinder method > random point method > ellipsoid method.

Melatonin: A therapeutic potential for the neurohormone in gallbladder disorders

In humans, N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine (melatonin), a neurohormone widely found in plants and animal sources, is synthesized from serotonin primarily by the pineal gland. Survival Prediction Models for Estimating the Benefit of Post-Operative Radiation Therapy for Gallbladder Cancer and Lung Cancer

The role of post-operative radiotherapy (PORT) is still controversial for some cancer sites. In the absence of large randomized controlled trials, survival prediction models can help estimate the predicted benefit of PORT for specific settings. The purpose of this study was to compare the performance of two types of prediction models for estimating the benefit of PORT for 2 cancer sites. Using ...

Application of Bland-Altman Method in Comparing Transrectal and Transabdominal Ultrasonography for Estimating Prostate Volume

Background: Estimating prostate volume using less invasive transabdominal ultrasonography (TAUS) instead of transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS) is of interest in terms of identifying their agreement level. Previous reports on this subject, applied general correlation coefficient as the level of agreement. This study uses Bland-Altman method to quantify TAUS and TRUS agreement on estimating prost...

تخمین آبنمود سیلاب حوزه آبخیز با استفاده از مدل HEC-HMS و سامانه اطلاعات جغرافیایی (مطالعه موردی: حوزه آبخیز ایدنک)

Among the variety of method s used for estimating runoff in the watershed, the SCS method has universal applicability, so the main aim of this study is the calibration of SCS method and the creation of flood hydrograph. The HEC-HMS hydrologic (rainfall-runoff) model has been used for Idanak watershed flood estimation. Using the residual sum of squared minimization function”, calibration proce...
